Biography:

Colette Sawyer currently functions as a Financial Regulation Supervisor for The INS Companies. Her primary responsibilities include serving as a Financial Analysis Supervisor and Examiner-in-Charge (EIC). In her role as an EIC, her primary responsibilities include performing risk-focused statutory financial examinations of insurance companies. Ms. Sawyer has been involved in risk-focused examinations since inception. Ms. Sawyer has 22 years of experience examining and/or supervising the examinations of life, health, property and casualty, and title insurance companies. Ms. Sawyer currently supervises the firm’s  Financial Analysis Team performing risk-focused financial analyses. As a financial analyst, Ms. Sawyer performs annual and quarterly financial statement analysis. Additionally, Ms. Sawyer serves as a member of the firm’s financial analysis thought leadership team.

Prior to re-joining InsRis, Ms. Sawyer contracted with Eide Baily, LLP where she performed financial examinations of risk retention groups and market conduct examination services from August 2018 through October 2018. Ms. Sawyer worked for Risk & Regulatory Consulting as a Senior Associate from March 2015 through July 2018, providing both financial examination and financial analysis services. Ms. Sawyer began performing consulting services under contract with The INS Companies from September 2013 through February 2015. Prior to beginning her consulting career, Ms. Sawyer worked for the Utah Insurance Department for 15 years; 7 of those years she served as Assistant Chief Examiner. In that capacity, Ms. Sawyer was responsible for oversight of the Financial Examination division function and evaluating the quality of financial examinations performed, as she developed the Division’s tracking tool for the Governor’s Scorecard. She participated as an NAIC peer reviewer and as an NAIC analyst team member. Ms. Sawyer was the first TeamMate Champion in Utah and developed the TeamStores for the Utah Insurance department’s first examination procedures.

Ms. Sawyer hired and trained six financial examiners who became certified with the Society of Financial Examiners (SOFE) within four years Ms. Sawyer served as the SOFE Utah State Chapter Chair, developing frequent training programs for the continuing education of examiners and analysts. She received the SOFE Don Fritz Award to State Chairs for commitment and dedication to the mission and values of the Society by coaching ad mentoring employees and proctoring SOFE certification exams. Ms. Sawyer served three consecutive five-year terms on the SOFE Board of Governors and served as Chair of a majority of the Executive Committees. Her most recent accomplishment was Co-Chairing the CDS Program Committee and organizing the 2018 SOFE Career Development Seminar in Palm Springs, CA.
