Toni L. Bean, CFE, CIA, CRMA, MCM

Ms. Bean currently serves The INS Companies (INS) as a Financial Regulation Senior Examiner and Examiner-in-Charge (EIC), where her primary responsibilities include conducting all phases of risk-focused financial examinations on behalf of state insurance departments. She also functions as a Subject Matter Expert regarding Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) reviews. Ms. Bean has more than seventeen years of experience with insurance regulation for all types of insurers including health, life, property/casualty, risk retention groups and captives. Her experience includes multi-state examinations, including functioning as the EIC, and specialty examinations such as MLR audits, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services audits, premium tax audits and data analysis. Prior to joining INS, she worked for Examination Resources, LLC as a Senior Examiner for four years, where she served the Center for Insurance Information and Oversight, the Georgia Department of Insurance, and the Kentucky Department of Insurance on a variety of regulatory examinations, with a focus on MLR audits, including a detailed review of the reimbursement of direct claims, capitated payments, and the associated claims reserves. Ms. Bean’s career also includes a brief period working with a public accounting firm, as well as over ten years working for the Alabama Department of Insurance, where she conducted a multitude of financial examinations in accordance with the NAIC Financial Condition Examiners Handbook, with a focus on life and health insurers, as well as coordinated, limited scope and captive examinations. While with the Alabama Department of Insurance, Ms. Bean performed several market conduct examinations, including a review of the insurers claims handling practices and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory guidance. Ms. Bean holds a BBA in management from the University of Montevallo, and currently resides in Calera, Alabama.
